Back on New Year’s Day, 2007, I got on the internet to look at information about Friesians, again. I have done this several times thru the years, because I have been drawn to these beautiful animals for about 15 years. The first memory I have of seeing a Friesian, was when I saw the movie Ladyhawke. It took me awhile to figure out what breed of horse he was, but I couldn’t get enough of watching him. The credits only said his name was Goliath – and a very fitting name indeed. The movie wasn’t about the horse, it was about a wolf and a falcon. Didn’t matter, once I saw Goliath, I was totally in love. Of course, since then I’ve admired the horse Russell Crowe rode in Gladiator, and Zorro’s gorgeous steed, too!
Back to my story of meeting Joellyn - it was happenchance. I could have hooked up with someone else, but I am so very glad it was her I contacted. She answered me right away. I was so excited. Someone who actually OWNED a Friesian!! But it got better and better, because I did some dreaming about buying a mare she knew about, named Dietske. Then I finally told her that I really couldn’t afford an animal like that. But Joellyn kept my dream alive for me. She encouraged me, she told me her story, and she made me see that I COULD own Dietske!!!
There may be dishonest folks in this industry, just like most others, so thank God it was Joellyn that I met. She is helpful, knowledgeable and honest, and she really, really cares about these horses. Joellyn has great connections here in the U.S., as well as in the Netherlands. My Dietske was delivered on February 15. She is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen and she was meant just for me. Without Joellyn’s help and encouragement, I doubt if I would have her.
